Social Workout hearts Cari Shoemate and her challenge!
"Good morning,
Good morning,
We've gabbed the whole night through.
Good morning, good morning to you."
~ Debbie Reynolds, Gene Kelly & Donald O'Connor, "Singing in the Rain"
Started salsa classes again. So good.
On Wednesday I was grateful for these things, among others harder to express or enumerate this very second, (nor are these in any particular order): Running in the mild morning by the Hudson River, talking to Doug L. on the phone, the fun crew at Social Workout HQ, and meeting up with my friend Ben in the evening. Count it.
Clock radios are one of the great triumphs of humanity.
Up! Though not bright eyed yet. Restless night.... (Could the two pints of Guinness which marked the end of The Jan Plan have disrupted my sleep?)
Busy old fool, unruly Sun,
Why dost thou thus,
Through windows and through curtains call on us?
~ John Donne ("The Sun Rising")
Jan Plan? Check. Twenty-One Day Yoga Challenge? Check. Now on to The Dawn Patrol, and the Feb. Thousands, and...hmm, what else do we need...?
"For what human ill does not dawn seem to be an alleviation?" ~Thornton Wilder
Sunrise tomorrow in NYC is 7:06AM ET. I'm sure that's already been posted, but just in case you missed it. As I did. That's in eight hours and six minutes from now. Or so. I'm SO going to be up before sunrise. Sweet dreams all (except to those of you in Hong King who are already awake), and off we go!
Hey Marjorie, Nice work on The Jan Plan! So great to have you on the site.
Jan Planners!
Believe it or not, you made it! You may not have noticed, but The Jan Plan officially ended yesterday. (We have a confusing practice of treating a month as exactly four weeks. Don't ask.) This means that, technically, you are free to start drinking again, if you wish, and slacking off entirely on your exercise. Of course, if you've got just a bit of pride, you'll probably want to keep things up right through the end of the month, i.e. today and tonight. For the record, that's my plan. Just saying.
Regardless, CONGRATS! You — we — took on a terrifying goal, and many of us performed bravely. Some also crashed and burned, or failed really to get out of the starting blocks. Without the flameouts, however, the rest of use wouldn't have been able to feel so exceptionally good about ourselves. Ha ha! Kidding. The point is, everyone was willing to jump off the cliff, if not quite to land gracefully. Not to worry, you'll stick the landing next time.
SO, where to from here? If you're really hell bent on total enlightenment, as I am, join me for The Dawn Patrol in February. This is where we get up on or before sunrise every day. Simple enough, no? Also: Incredibly, deeply in synch with the universe, and potentially gruesome on a Sunday morning. Once again, the group support will be essential. Note: There are serious prizes for all levels of achievement.
If that's not your cup of tea, check out our other challenges, or set a personal goal. Research shows that life is better with a challenging goal or two to spice things up. Really.
In sum, thanks for joining, and try to hold off on the tequila shots for a while.
Best,
Oliver

Several key points:
1.) I'm SO excited for (and slightly terrified by) The Dawn Patrol. I'm way into Big Challenges. Must dream up a few more....
2.) With 21 Day Challenge over, I started running again. This feels good.
3.) I can not keep track of how many glasses of water I drink. Was it four or seven? Who knows. Need better technology.
4.) Speaking of technology: There are SO many upgrades we've got in the works. Don't be afraid to speak up and tell us what your top request would be for Social Workout. You can comment here, or submit a suggetion via our Feedback form!
5.) Not drinking was easier this year than ever before.
6.) Count it!
My final yoga practice of the 21 day challenge was kind of a gimme. Jason Crandall's "Evening Practice" for Newbies. This consisted of a single downward dog, and a lot of pleasant leg stretching aided by belt, done in candlelit comfort of my apartment around 10PM. Look, if Jason had asked, I was prepared to work up a sweat, but he didn't. It was an official challenge video, and, though it barely qualifies as a workout, it certainly counts as a yoga practice. In short, count it!
Welcome Challengers! We had so much fun in January, we thought we'd do it again in February. If you didn't quite get your engines going for the first round, or you simply don't want to stop while you're ahead, join us!
This month we've kept it simple: We're just tracking yoga practices and meditation. Of course, you may add other healthy practices, like eating vegetarian meals, as you see fit. And don't be shy about telling us!
Rest up, we begin in two days....
