Oh yeah. Climbing with the new shoes. Rocking. Really it was just what I needed after a super craptastic day.
Today, I went on a fitness adventure on the UWS. My oh-so-favorite Flywheel has a spin studio in the JCC and since the JCC was having an open house today they were offering two free class. One of the clsses was with Ruth - apparently, I will really go FAR out of my way for a free spin class with a teacher I love. I think almost everyone else on their list must have a membership because I was really the only one she knew who showed up for the free class. Since I didn't want to miss out on the free-ness, I arrived REALLY early, basically the moment that the JCC opened up their open house. I signed up and then decided to go for a walk to get a coffee. I wandered up to Joe's, my favorite Union Square coffee shop, who thanks to Yelp, I realized had a spot only about 9 blocks away. On my way I over heard a little boy in full soccer gear talking to his dad:
Little boy: Why were you so mad about that shot he took?
Dad: Because it was an illegal shot.
LB: But I almost got it!
Dad: So that means I shouldn't be upset about it?
LB: YEAH! Because it showed my potential future awesomeness!
Spin was great, of course. Filled with people who had never taken a Flywheel class and some who had never taken a spin class. It should have made for an easy-ish class but Ruth was really happy to see a friendly face and kept calling me out which of course made me work 3 x's as hard. I loved it. There was a little old lady who got very upset with how loud the music was and left in a huff but since she was on the bike next to me and was throwing out a weird vibe I was glad she left! Class finished and I was a puddle of sweat and full of all the endorphins that make you giddy.
About 30 minutes later, one of the other special open house classes that was being offered was a "low trapeze" class. I, of course, HAD to stay for that! It started out really weird with a ridiculous movement warm up and for a brief moment I thought about running away but I am so glad I didn't. We were 2 to a trapeze and I ended up with another girl who was really strong. We pretty easily could flip up onto the trapeze but kept getting in trouble for not being better spotters since neither of us really needed the help. I LOVE hanging upside down! It was a lot of fun. I had such a good time and the hour flew by! I am definitely going to try and go to another one.
Then after I grabbed all my stuff and decided to walk from 75th to 57th to catch the Q train. It was such a pretty day and waiting around to transfer from one train to another all ways seems like such a waste of time when you can walk to the direct shot. I love people watching, especially in an area I never go too.
Seriously, I can't think of a way I would rather have spent my day.
Today, I spent a good portion of the day crying, in a sad self-pitying manner that no one, should or thankfully did witness. Then, when I finally realized that was not helping, I put on some exercise clothes and headed off to the gym. Instead of going straight to the gym, I stopped off and had a yummy cup of coffee and studied a wordpress book since I am going to be starting a site/blog soon and needed a little thing to look forward too. After the yummy coffee and suddenly feeling less pathetic, I made it to the gym where I did the following:
2 miles, slowly building from 10:54 to a 10 minute mile. The full last 10 minutes were at a 10 minute mile pace.
150 ab exercises, 25 for each variant
2 miles, beating the time before, with a 10 minute mile fore both miles.
Arms - 10 of each exercise to hit all the muscles
Squats, 10 tap-backs off a box on each leg, 10 split squats with one foot on the box, followed with 10 push ups on the box X 3.
1 mile finish at a 9:13 mile pace since I really wanted to be done.
I felt awesome, tired and ok at the end. Easily better then the rest of the day.
Then, to round the day off, I agreed to a challenge where I will in 7 weeks compete in the Wilhelmina Fitness model challenge.... but more on that later. :)
Today was absolutely amazing. I started on the Brooklyn Bridge with Ariane for boot camp, it was a small group but it was a good class and as always, so much fun. Then I hoped on the train to Union Square to get a yummy iced coffee and was going to go through the green market to get my veggies for the week. However, I made a little pit stop at my favorite Lulu store and ended up getting new amazing running pants. SO rad! I have wanted them for ages and they are going to help get me to my goal of 7miles for 37 because, yes, I totally believe great workout clothes make a difference. Then I headed home to meet up with the fella, after that there was a lot of wandering and chilling. On the way home, however, we stopped to get a pedicure. I've never had one and it was awesome, it is no wonder people get them all time. Yep, there is a thing my bank account didn't need me to know.
