  • Another night of climbing with the fella. It was awesome as it always is, we practiced a bunch of really challenging routes and just really challenged ourselves. Then as we were leaving the fella took the photo on the left which blew my mind. My back is getting ripped! I had no idea and I LOVE it.

  • Today was great. Started with Boot Camp on the bridge, then yummy joe's coffee and the green market, then home to go to the Flea with the fella.... and then loads more wandering.

  • Ah today was one of those days were going to the gym was the last thing I wanted to do, but I went. I did a good circuit and then bailed.

  • Tonight was a good night at the gym but only for cardio. I got one of the better treadmills - the temp gym has a lot that are insanely old and shaky - mine tonight was one of the more solid so I did a hard interval routine. It was great to really run it out and challenge myself. I did 1 minute intervals every 5 minutes, with a faster base pace of 6.1 which for me is speedy. My circuit routine though was like pulling teeth so I bagged it and went back up to the treadmills to run another mile and 1/2 to make it a full 5 miles. I was just really into cardio tonight and since my arms are so sore from all the climbing just running was nice!

  • Dear people who sell climbing shoes,
If I say they hurt, I am not going to buy them. Yes, I understand they are supposed to be "tight" but I have no interest in buying shoes that are past tight into pain. Thank you for your help, now f' off with your superiority bullshit, I will be buying my shoes online.
    I am out.
(Today, I walked from Tent &Trails by the Brooklyn Bridge, to EMS and then to Paragon in my search, so not really exercise but a darn fine walk none the less)

  • Once in a blue moon, my workout doesn't knock out the beginning stages of wallowing after a bad day. Tonight was one of those nights, my slight wallow was blown into a full on pity party by the end of what was a really good, solid workout.
My points for the night come coming home and instead of saying f'it, and eating crap I made my favorite quickie healthy meal. In my fridge, there is always frozen broccoli, eggs and salsa. Always, so I never have an excuse. My meal goes like this : first you put a little salsa in the bottom of a shallow bowl, then the cooked broccoli, topped with 2 egg whites and one whole egg scrambled on top and voila! It isn't so exciting but a good, filling meal with protein and veggies and takes less then ten minutes. Nice.

    • C J. thanks for the recipe! i will def try it next time i am lazy about cooking. 3 years ago

  • So tonight was another new gym for me in my away from home life thanks to a buywithme.com deal... It was a nice gym but because it is 25 years old it is stuffed into this space that must have once been a rowhome - all of these tiny rooms with little winding stairways connecting them. Sort of odd but my pet peeve is that they CHARGE for towels! Oh man I hate that, but since I looked so agast at that they gave me one comp tonight - a couple of points back for that. So I finally made my way to a treadmill and did a 40 minute interval routine - it was great. Oh man I am an endorphin junkie these days! Then off the the weight room where I did a arm/ab routine.... which admittedly might not have been the best idea for my slightly sore arms from climbing the other day but what can I say? I think working my arms will make climbing easier? After that, back to the treadmill to round out my cardio for a 10 minute fast run. Then I decided to check out the basement area that had the weight machines, and there I found my FAVORITE thing! Down there was this crazy room that you had to enter through this weird hobbit sized door that had TRX, a bar, a punching dummy and medicine balls, step up things... and not a single other soul in it. So then I did some donkey kicks at the bar, some pullup-kind of thing on the TRX, some plyo things with the medicine ball.... then some dude came in and in trying to move my spread out stuff, I realized I had forgotten my water bottle and locker key at the treadmill and ran off. Dude thought it was because of him but it wasn't at all. I am totally starting in that little room tomorrow!

    • Christine N. What place was this that has a TRX setup that doesn't require it to only be used during class? (The only other place I know is Brooklyn Boulders) 3 years ago
    • Sassletic W. Crunch used to have a towel deposit of $1. You'd get the dollar back when you returned the towel. That was super weird. I guess people were stealing the towels back in the day. Eek. I always think it's weird going to gyms and seeing people bringing there own towels with them. I guess that's what the yoga studios do... 3 years ago
    • Christine N. I'm actually surprised nowadays when I see a yoga studio that includes mat/towel costs with the class fee. But a typical gym doing it is just... weird... 3 years ago
    • Maggie H. It is WEIRD at a gym, yoga studio I get, but at a gym where there is profuse sweating? Gyms should really be pushing towels on everyone, since that isn't the case at this place, I was super vigilant about wiping down the bench both BEFORE and after I used it and tonight I brought a towel! 3 years ago

  • Today was my last class for a little while at Flywheel... it was awesome of course. It always amazes me how great a class Kate teaches, I work 20x's harder then I ever would on my own on a spin bike. I love the torque board, competing against my fellow classmates while feeling totally inspired by the energy in the room and everyone else's hard work too. Ahhh..... I left totally endorphin-ed high and happy. I can't wait till I get to go back!

  • Tonight, the fella and I went to Brooklyn Boulders. It was the first time we had been back since the SW event ages ago.... We had bought a Living Social deal awhile ago but the last couple of months have been a little crazy with the challenge and all the specific training I was doing for that. So today, went went and activated our month long memberships. So freaking rad.
First of all can I just say it was hysterical to walk in and hear "Hey, MAGGIE!"... turns out one of my friends actually was teaching yoga there tonight. I didn't check that out tonight since we were there to climb but I will definitely be back for that. Tonight it was all about the bouldering. The fella and I took a little while to watch people and get a lay of the land but once we started we climbed for the next 2 hours. It was a great time. Awesome music, friendly, helpful people and just an all around great vibe.
The funniest part was how much easier tonight was then the last time I went.... I am so much stronger and climbing was so much more fun tonight! This is going to be one damn fun month!

    • Christine N. <3 bkb!! I haven't climbed in a few months, but I've been going for the yoga. 3 years ago
    • C J. yes! the time i went back to bkb after the sw event i felt the same way. like wow, i'm way stronger than i remember being last time. awesome! hope you make good use of the month pass. 3 years ago
    • Maggie H. Oh I will be using the heck out of that month long pass! We are planning on going both Saturday and Sunday.. and Monday too..... 3 years ago
    • Maggie H. Christine, how are their yoga classes? Is there anyone you really love? 3 years ago
