Buffin declared yesterday to be Big Booty Thursday. That was fine with me, because it meant I could sing my Big Booty song. The boring details: band-walking, leg presses (200+lbs, baby!), hamstring curls, lunges, squats, squats, squats, and one final stair run where my legs turned to jelly. The fun details: While on the Smith machine (it's like assisted barbell squats), Anthony came up behind me, hugged me under the arms, and made himself into a human chair so that I squatted into his lap. If only all squats were like that. It was magical.
Yesterday in aerial silks class, there were only two of us, so I got my own silk the whole time. We were working hard! We worked on bicycle climbs, opposite-side knee hook hip keys, hip keys from the air, and starting learning the beginning wrap of a "Peter Pan." I don't know yet what a Peter Pan is, but I was more of a dead Wendy bird. I've been working on knee hooks for, oh, two-ish years. They are hard, because, you know, there's all your body weight, and it's supported by your knee. So right now I'm building up to it by starting from the ground. One of my next strength hurdles is being able to get my butt over my head in the air, and then hook my knee and hold on for God and Country. Oof. Onward, with baby steps to the big guns.
I'm doing a really good job of training Buffin on how to train me. He told me to do a wall sit, and then immediately pretended we were having a tea party, raised pinkies and all. I didn't even have to instigate the make-believe this time! When we weren't having a tea party, and when I wasn't flirting with all of the other trainers, we were doing hamstring curls, leg presses, lat pull-downs, and a motherload of deadlifts at 135lbs. Fraidy watched the deadlifts for awhile, which I enjoyed because I could show off my new pink weightlifting wraps. At the end, Buffin told me to do stair runs. I thought he was joking. He was not joking. Then I rearranged all the pictures on the trainer board so all my favorite gym boyfriends were on the same side. Trainer Mike yelled at me for moving his picture - I think he thinks if his picture is in the middle of the two boards it makes him cooler, but it does not. After I left the gym, the trainer board caused quite a bit of drama because they were all arguing over the order I arranged them in, and what it meant about who is my favorite. I like to keep the boys guessing.
On Sunday, Flaming Mermaid Broken Star made our outdoor aerial debut with our new act "The Bomb & The Bombshell." We were a bit under-rehearsed, but we still pulled it off, and the little kids seemed to like it, which is good. It was really fun seeing a bunch of other aerialists perform, and getting to spend the afternoon in the sun. The video is not great, but here it is.
It's the day of the show y'all! I was very proud of my doubles act with BritBrit. I accidentally overinflated her, so I had some problems with her Velcro, but overall it was a success. There was a rigging issue during the show, so while Mama Silk fixed it, I took over the hosting duties and told seven minutes of impromptu jokes. Really, the secret to being successful in life is to wear gold lamé pants. Everything is better in gold lamé.
Buffin, lady Buffin (Exsoycise) and Sassletic came to see the show. I love having my Buffin and my muffin in the audience. Here is some video from Sassletic's phone. I'm not sure you can see it, but maybe you can. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=678756788932
My aerial show on Sunday involves climbing to the top of the silks and fetching a tiara. Problem is, the silks we're performing on are rigged at 17 feet, and I've never climbed that high. The gym where I usually train is only about 14.5 feet. Erin and I were rehearsing at the Muse, which is rigged to 18 feet. She climbed up, hung the tiara from the top, and then I went all the way up and fetched it. Huzzah! Success! Really, there was no way I could fail because 1) I would never leave a tiara stranded and 2) all the fancy circus people were watching and it would be mortifying to not be able to climb that high in front of them. Our routine is military-themed, but once I get the tiara I am magically transformed into a soldier princess. Because we all have to find the soldier princess hiding deep within us - even if you have to climb 18 feet to find her.

Oh right, after I left aerial rehearsal, I had a workout with Buffin. I should have known I was in trouble when he started the session with a back massage. Never trust a trainer when he is being sweet to you. After the back massage, it was a full hour of stair runs, burpees, squats and core core core. Gaaaahhhhh. Blarf. Dead tired.

I got a new inflatable aerial partner. This one came in a Britney Spears box (her predecessor came in a Pamela Anderson box) so I'm calling her BritBrit. It's actually a big dream of mine to perform with Britney Spears, so I'm checking this off on my bucket list. BritBrit works great, and I bought her a shiny gold leotard for Saturday's performance. I wish I had about 3 more chances to rehearse. It is rough rehearsing two new aerial acts to debut in the same weekend. I feel a little underprepared, but it's not like I'm performing at Carnegie Hall, so I'm sure it'll turn out fine.

Do you think Britney had time for extra rehearsals when she was busy shaving her head, or breaking up with her hubby by text or having two babies? No. And she's still...awesome. You've got this. Even if it WAS Carnegie Hall.

May 1st is my birthday, and also my FOURTH anniversary with Social Workout. I took aerial silks class, and then got my hair did, threw on a tiara and saw Cinderella on Broadway. Best 3rd-grade themed birthday party ever! It's also my Jesus Year (which means I'm 33, the same age as Jesus was when he died) and so in the spirit of living while I'm alive, I am doing one new thing that I have never done before, every day.

I LOVE your birthday celebration ideas. I always want something BIG on my birthdays. Ten rides on an antique merry-go-round, followed by brownie hot fudge sundaes (never the other way around) is always a goodie for me during "my b'day month." I'm old; it takes a lot of celebrating to blow out all the candles.
