Elizabeth K.: Fearless Living Log

Updates
  • On this last day, I'm giving my update on the challenges I have yet to complete -- but will...
Need to lock in my accountability buddy. (Day 28)
Need to decide on what my intention is for this phase of my life, and figure out what my biggest dream is. (Days 27 and 22)
Still gotta get rid of my 2 piles. (Von Hottie won that contest fo sho! Holla!) (Day 10)
Still gotta send out 5 thank-you notes. (Day 20)
Need to have a day without coffee. (Day 26)
Need to think of a secret to share with someone (lol I swear I don't have one!). (Day 17)
Need to apologize to someone. (Day 11)
Need to make an acquaintance a friend. (Day 7)

For the record, "no-makeup day" (Day 18) was my favorite Boot Camp experience, and my biggest -- and most unexpected -- fear-buster! I hadn't know that I would EVER have the courage to do that, and I'm so thrilled I did! Also, I want to make "no complaining" my default mode for the rest of my life (Day 13). And I want to ALWAYS keep track of kindness (Day 9).

Thanks for this amazing experience, Rhonda! Can't wait to see what you have cooking for tomorrow's Boot Camp finale.

  • Also, over the past few weeks I've been trying to let go of something that has meant a lot to me for the past 6 months. I'm sad to let it go... but I have to move on to something that's literally bigger and I think tons better! But still sad.

  • Also, I've been diligently working on my Die all month -- completing something that will be seen tomorrow by one of the people I most admire. Counting it today....

  • Great challenge for today, Rhonda! I know EXACTLY what I'm giving up: my evening glass of wine, which has been "helping me wind down" for the past week and a half -- yep, a new habit has been forming and I don't really like it. (Or actually, I don't like what my inner voice has been telling me about it.) I'm just thanking God that I watched your video AFTER I had my coffee that I HAVE TO HAVE... that's really the thing I should give up, lol! I will do that one over the weekend...

    • Elizabeth K. UPDATE: I had to give up on the giving up this weekend. Meh. But I am going to be COFFEE-FREE for at least one day next week (NOT Monday). I will alert you ahead of time so you can proceed to your bomb shelters lol. 2 years ago

    • Cintra B. When I laugh really hard, my cheek muscles hurt and I think to myself, "Those are muscles that are not getting used enough!" Thank you for this wonderful Boot Camp : ) 2 years ago

  • Focused on my breathing on and off today -- not every hour, but several times. Breathing exercises are challenges for me because I had terrible asthma into my 20s and whenever I focus on my lungs they tighten up. *exhales*

  • Last night I sang a protest song to my mom over the phone! She told me that she has decided not to put up the big Christmas tree this year. (Yes, it was still September, and she was already worrying about it!) Her excuse was that she has bought a new rug and a bunch of new plants and "no longer has room for a tree." So I started singing, "Protest! Protest!" And then I made up the ditty (actually, it was more of a dirge -- very plaintive):

    No treeeee
    No treeee
Mom says we will have no treeee
    She has new plaaaaants
    New plaaaaants
She got a new rug and new plaaaants....

And then whenever she launched into her "new plants" excuse, I sang,

    La la la la
    I'm singing
    La la la la
    I can't hear you
    La la la la
    New plaaaaaaants!

Eventually she laughed, which is a victory because she doesn't do that too easily anymore. (She has a brain injury.) My dad was laughing hysterically the whole time, btw. ;-)

    • Carol G. We should make life a musical more often :) I like that! 2 years ago
    • von Hottie v. A few years ago, My parents bought a fake tree and put it up instead of a real tree. In protest, I named the fake tree "Botox" and make a point of trying to smell it. I will march in your protest, gladly. 2 years ago

  • Just gettin' mah point for yesterday. I asked for help/ input/advice A LOT. But I often do -- especially at work. It's a fabulous environment where nobody seems afraid to offer or request help; the focus is on sharing knowledge, so there's a really supportive feel. Whenever I ask a question that I personally think is dumb (like, "I should know this, probably..."), I make it kind of fun by calling myself "Homer" -- as in Homer Simpson. Being able to laugh at your own "stupidity" makes it easier to ask for help! :-D

    • Liz K. You are blessed in your work environment, not everyone is and should very well be Grateful. Sharing and Caring comes with Social Workout Buddies and Huff Post and I envy that.

Thank you, Elizabeth K, again for helping me out...for caring enough to make a comment. I am committed to finishing the Fearless Living Boot Camp Challenge this time. You have given me a second chance. Thank you. ;-) 2 years ago

  • Rhonda, your DIE today moved and inspired me so much that I decided to make it "no makeup day" myself! I have never gone to work -- anywhere -- without makeup on. (Although I do slink around my neighborhood incognito sometimes on weekends.) I'd thought it would be a Die for me, too, but I'm having a good hair and skin day, so it actually just feels like a Risk! To kick it up a notch, I'll share a photo of me in all my "glory"...

    • Elizabeth K. Thank you for that AMAZINGLY SWEET MESSAGE, Linda K! :-D I ended up having such a great "no makeup" day. I really felt like myself at work, and it was just a good day all around. That night, since my face was already pretty clean, I used a facial mask I haven't used in months. Ahhhhhh! 2 years ago
