Monday morning run, and "50s." Wishing one and all a shockingly productive week!
Hello Sunday! Out of bed and into a long run out to Gerard point and back. It was slow going, running off sleep and wine and the week, but gorgeous. I made myself look up and out at the horizon, across Gardiners Bay, and this calmed my breathing. Wishing everyone a beautiful day!
Reset myself this morning with quick run and 50s. The last two days brutal from a physical standpoint. Friends visiting, and dinners have gone late and involved wine.
Now working on plans and pitches for Social Workout! Here's to a productive afternoon for all!
Tuesday: I don't sleep very long (after a friends birthday involving much wine), and I feel the faint shadow of some kind of sickness passing through my system, i.e. I'm just a little light-headed. YET, I have no problem getting out of bed, and at early yoga I'm flying. Even though my head is out of it, my body moves well, and with energy. It reminds me of when, way back when I used to play competitive tennis, sometimes my best matches came when I was hungover. I wouldn't be quite in control of my body, but it was somehow just taking over. It's not exactly a trustworthy, yogic state, but it lasted all day, and I managed to harness the energy, and get things done. Am I making any sense? In any event, the body is an amazing thing.
Dinner with A. after some time, and managed to stretch myself a little in the conversation. Not much, but at least one point.
Count it!
Monday: Started the week with a morning run, pushups, situps, and squats. It wasn't pretty, but it's paying off today. Wellness is all about building the Big Mo! Count it.
Didn't exactly get up early, and procrastinated like CRAZY at work; BUT I did go for a run in the pouring rain, and did my 50s, and ate healthy. What do I mean by procrastinate? Watching "Call Me Maybe" videos, scanning Facebook and Twitter, and reading obscure US Open stories written by my fave Tennis journalist, Christopher Clarey.
SO, today I got up early, went to yoga, and have am declaring a day of BIG self discipline. Onward!
Did my 50s yesterday, after a beautiful sunset run. On Wednesday evenings in the summer, people tango out at the end of Pier 45. I ran around the pier last night to see them, though this picture is not mine. Toward the end of the evening, the dances slow down, as does the beautiful, old accordion music. Seeing all the couples moving slowly together, in the dusk, against the backdrop of water and skyline is very special. Count it!

Monday morning run!
Went to bed early, and slept long. Sleep discipline I'm coming after you! The morning run was only the second this week, and third in two weeks, and I felt the absence. Amazing how you're body starts to feel slow and heavy. Like inertia is a real, movable thing inside you. It's a wonderful thing to feel light and fast when you run, and I'm, ahem, not there at the moment. Well, better late than never. Cranked out my 50s (though not yet the squats), and onward into the day.
The breaking news is that I've tweaked my quad muscle! ARGH! Maybe not serious, but quite unnerving given that tomorrow is the TOUGH MUDDER. Literally on the last 30 yards of my run. The truth is I WANT to do the Tough Mudder, and being injured is not acceptable. Popping ibuprophen and hoping for best.
