The eternal question: Does bowling count as exercise?
Back from Texas, and straight to the gym. Airplanes are bad for your health. Yeehaw!
Day two in Ft. Worth. For better or worse, my diet consisted of chicken fried steak, fried okra and Arnold Palmers. I managed a few pushups in the hotel room, but that's about it. We did a lot of walking, though, and spent some time watching the cattle judging. Pretty amazing to see all the farm kids primping their animals, i.e. showering, blow drying, and using an electric razor to give them a nice "fade."

On Friday, I went down to Ft. Worth, Texas for the annual Stock Show and Rodeo. Long story, but suffice I bought a pair of cowboy boots (Justin Boots in Justin Texas) and some Wranglers, and dove right in. We watched bucking broncs, and bulls, and barrel racing (amazing!), and beautiful parades of horses and flags. We sang the national anthem and prayed en masse, and we looked at a lot of very pretty cows. Gotta say, those rodeo dudes are in amazing shape. Talk about core strength. I wonder what kind of workouts they do to prepare for sitting bareback on a 1,800 lb bull?
We also went to the gun range, where I shot a .9mm handgun and a .22 rifle. Don't hate. If you're gonna have a position on the whole gun debate, might as well gather some facts. One conclusion: Shooting guns at a range is sort of an interesting hobby, but I'd rather go to Zumba or play pick-up basketball or do yoga. Not that gun shooting and fitness are comparable, but I did get the feeling people went to the range as a regular activity. And, yes, there's real skill required — breath control and concentration — and tons of "technology" to geek out on, but I think I'd get bored after a while. That said, the range was packed, and it was great people watching. Next to me was a woman with pink earphones (to block the noise) and a pink iPhone in her back pocket, and she was shooting a black .9mm Glock. She was certainly not the only women packing heat, either. I chatted with a cute young blonde at the bar later who showed me an iPhone snapshot of her pink handgun.
I won't digress into longer political debate, but suffice to say the cowboy culture is alive and well in Texas. Also, score one for the New Yorker who wasn't afraid to order non-alcoholic beer at some pretty tough joints, like even at Filthy McNasty's Saloon down by the old stockyards....
Thursday (last) Catch Up: Early bfast with AZM, followed by work, work, work, followed by interesting Nike+ TechStars Accelerator meeting. That's where Nike and Tech Stars accept pitches from various start-up companies that want to do cool things with all the Nike+ and Nike Fuel data. Represent Social Workout!
(Um, no gym, but lot's of biking in the cold.)
Sobriety is proving much easier than exercise this month. But I will hit the gym this eve, prior to the exciting Nike+ tech accelerator meeting. I love the old fashioned winter cold, but it does tend to make you want to hide out....
Early dinner with fam preempts late exercise. Fair exchange, but this is why the morning workout is superior. It doesn't get preempted. Just saying.
Amazing: Sprained foot does not mind the elliptical machine. Basically, if I can't do cardio, I don't really know how to work out. Cardio is always the first thing, and then come pushups and situps, etc. Working out without cardio, for me, is like eating tuna casserole for breakfast.
Ankle is putting a damper on exercise. Gym today for sure. Amazing how any perturbance to the routine throws the whole system into disarray.
