the gym closed at 1pm today until Jan 2 so I was very motivated this morning to get out of the house. My legs were feeling a bit sore from yesterday's workout so it was hard to get started but I managed 2.5 miles in 30 min. with some walking. did lots of squats and abs. trying out some new standing ab moves with light weights. Overall I'm feeling pretty weak. I guess the week of sloth has taken it's toll. Also went for a walk with the kid in the afternoon. The neighborhood park is very icy, hoping for a good snowstorm for sledding and snowshoeing.
I've already started planning for the January cleanse. Trying to cut down on dairy, caffeine, red meat and ALCOHOL! Of course, I have to drink bubbles tonight, but only 1 bottle to share with the man. I ate the last 2 xmas cookies after the gym so the kitchen has been emptied of yummies. the frig is loaded with fruits, veg and homemade soup, so I'm all set for 2012!

finally back at the gym after 8 days of holiday sloth. I love visiting friends and family in the NY area but it always involves too much food and alcohol. did go for a family walk on the 25th and I decided to do some running. My mom laughed at me and said I was showing off (there's a reason all her kids live far away, but that's another story). My sister is definitely more positive and right away said that I was looking more fit. We last saw each other in June, just when I had started running. It's nice to know that she could see a difference.
Anyway, today I warmed up with 5 minutes on a spin bike then 35 min. of treadmill. tried to run the whole time but couldn't hack it. did 3 intervals run/walk for 2.9 miles. felt like puking after the 2nd interval so I guess I was doing a good job pushing myself.

Breakfast started out healthy this morning with yogurt but ended with xmas cookies. My last "free" day before xmas break so more gym today. I thought about running but my legs are pretty tired after 3 days in a row so I did 30 min. of incline racewalking with 2 short run intervals, 2.16 miles. I'm not a fan of weight machines but today I did leg press, gravitron and lots of hand weights. I want it to hurt tomorrow so I won't feel like exercising. We are driving to the NY area to see the aged mom so there will be 6 hours of sitting and road food. Plus my sister already has tiny bubbles chilling in the frig. That's what I call sisterly love :)

I kicked my own @ss today. Morning gym, 30 min. run intervals, 2.65 miles. top speed 6.2 during Green Day's American Idiot. some abs, etc. followed by 60 min. hot yoga class! I know, totally crazy, but that's the kind of stuff I like to do when I have a totally free day. kid is at school, no work, all xmas stuff done so I treat myself with large doses of exercise.

made and ate xmas cookies last night so I was very motivated to go to the gym today. 3.25 miles in 40 min. with intervals of walking. put together a new playlist which kept me going. Green Day, Mumford & Sons, Ceelo, Bruce Springsteen (I have a thing for him). 2 minutes of planks, tons of crunches, pushups and stretching. Need to find a cheap foam roller.

gym day. treadmill run, 2.5 miles, 30 min. not super motivated to exercise, but since I have an office party tonight and dinner party with very alcoholic friends tomorrow, I better burn the calories in advance.

went to the gym just for cardio. 35 min. on the tread, 2.8 miles. My calves are really tight after yesterday's staircase adventures. I also have an ache in my upper back that doesn't want to go away. I probably overstretched in yoga on friday. oh woe is me. Nothing a glass of wine and some advil can't take care of.

too much ice on the sidewalks this morning to go for a run during the kid's taekwondo class so I stayed inside the building and did stairs. Thankfully it's a big old building full of weird staircases and hallways so I jogged all over the places. The whole building is full of sport activities so there were parents everywhere sitting on their butts, waiting for their kids. I was the only one running around and getting sweaty. I've discovered a pushup technique that I love: stand at bottom of staircase, facing steps, put hands on bottom step or 2nd step and do straight leg pushups in sets of 10. I also do these at work.
