Quick lunchtime workout... 6 mins rowing, 1 slow and painful mile on the treadmill (first time running since the marathon!) and then some kettlebell swings.
I followed all that up with a fried chicken club sandwich from Hill Country Chicken. Oops.
BKB tonight, maybe.
The ol' first marathon at night in the middle of Las Vegas. You know, the usual...
Arrived on Friday afternoon and just chillaxed. James and I were staying at the MGM Grand. Walked on over to The Venetian, not realizing it was 2 miles (despite the expo info clearly stating it was only 0.5 miles away). That means a total of at least 4 miles each day we were there, since we made two trips to the race expo (which, by the way, was a blast and had tons of free stuff).
I got sick Saturday night through Sunday morning from a very fatty (and unfortunately very expensive) dinner. Oops. Luckily, I got better by Sunday afternoon. Big day!! Started lining up at the corrals a bit early. It was CROWDED.
The first 13.1 miles was painful (my knees and hip started bugging out around mile 6), but I made it through in 2:22:35 (the slowest I've ever done for a half, but I wasn't rushing). James was there and gave me a kiss at miles 7 and 13. :) At that point, he decided to sneak into the race lane with me with the intention of running a few blocks with me for motivation, but because of barricades, by the time there was an opening, it was too late. He stuck it out for the entire second half with me. In his new pair of loafers. That's love.
I had to slow down after the first half, and took quite a few walking breaks. By mile 20 I was just walking, and having a mental breakdown and sobbing left and right about how much it hurt. But James was there to help calm me down and motivate me. Then it started raining. It was COLD. Around mile 23/24 we played the game of "let's pass that person! and now that person! and that one!" and powerwalked our way through. At mile 25, we were both in pain, but I told him I wanted to try to run the last mile, which I did, and it was the longest freaking mile ever to the finish line.
I finished at 5:47:08, which isn't totally amazing, and nowhere near my goal, but I'm just glad I finished, considering I didn't properly train, had injuries, and woke up sick.
Because I finished so late in the game, I wasn't exposed to the chaos that most runners are writing about. Apparently it was hell, what with 44,000 marathoners + half marathoners running about the strip with no clearly designated lanes, water running out, super green bananas, etc. I'm kind of glad I was slow and didn't have to go through all that.
All in all, I had fun. A year and a half ago, my knees were so bad I couldn't walk down a staircase without clinging on to the railing for dear life. Today, I'm a marathoner. :)
Vanilla bubble bath ^_^ Oh, and treadmills are so boring. I set it on an incline and couldn't get myself past 2 miles. Staring at curtains just doesn't cut it. At the very least, the den had no heat so it almost felt like I was running outside without the snow, which was sadly the high point of it all.
James and I took my little brother to BKB today - pretty decent for his first time and he enjoyed it!
3 mile run in the evening... Ok to be honest, we were watching Harold and Kumar and decided to go on a White Castle run. It was closed. Then we tried to hit up Taco Bell. Also closed. Sad day... then a 3 mile walk back home.
So behind on my sun salutations. I think I have to do 100 a day for the next week or so to catch up *cries*
Busy workday but I fit in most of what I planned to do in order to catch up with my challenges (excluding the 80 salutations I was hoping on, but I'll make up for that). Either way, I love how the interwebz is keeping me in check.
Tried my new calf sleeves for today's run and zomg where did my shin splints go? *happy* Thanks James C. for the xmas gift and boss-man David S. for the reco. Anywho, tomorrow is the last day for the "60 miles in 35 days" goal I started, and I'm only about halfway through. I had a rough start, but I'm hoping to do better when I go for round 2 for half-marathon training! (For anyone interest, I'm doing this one: http://www.131marathon.com/13_1_new_york.htm)
My best friend is in town and while I couldn't make a show with her tonight, we are headed to Serendipity3 for a post-show dinner/dessert thing. Normally I'd say, "Fantastic, Christine, you deserve that peanut butter frozen hot chocolate!" But alas, I've been indulging quite a bit lately (oops) so I'll just have to work a bit harder to burn this off. I just won't step on the scale for a few days haha.
Nothing like a morning with Cindy Lai and her kettlebell bootcamp classes. As much as I love these, I might switch to her regular bootcamp classes... I can't handle having to take off ~3 days or so just for recovery. Last time I think I wrote something along "safely assuming" that I did 50 squats... well, this time I counted and I managed 157 squats. Well duh, no wonder I can't walk for a few days after class :)
Anywho, I took the trip to BKB with James afterwards but napped on the comfy couch because I had zero energy to climb, followed by an evening trip to Om Factory for Antigravity Yoga. Love!
Late night at work yesterday; Finally left about a quarter to 10 but I hadn't run in over a week and I was determined to get 3 miles in by the end of the night, so I hit up el gym. For some reason the back of my legs weren't agreeing (even with stretching/warming up) so I ended up walking/jogging the 3 miles. Boo.
Last day at Pure Yoga for my trial and I did the Iyengar class with Adam. I've never done Iyengar before and I somehow signed myself up for a level 1/2 or 2 class. It was intense (in a good way). Hopefully this won't be my last time there - PY has community classes so maybe that will be a way for me to keep going without committing to a membership (do I really need 3 gym memberships? nah).
Art of Fitness in Astoria had a holiday party today with free Zumba and Burlesquercise classes. It was fun and I won a t-shirt :) I originally planned on heading to BKB with James afterwards but instead ended the night with home workouts for the sake of all these challenges I'm doing. Haven't done my bubble bath yet, but I will tonight (because I stink)!
I love weekend days. I just end up stuffing all the workouts that I want to do there. Unfortunately, tomorrow is Monday. :(
