Tried the Navy Seal workout to get my set point.
2 mile run in 23 min. need to work on that!
50 on knee pushups in 2 min.
42 situps in 2 min.
18 assisted pullups and 20 dips while I was on the machine
No swimming. I hate freestyle stroke.
Other stuff: lots of squats and stretching. Feeling pretty sore this morning from yesterday's class.

I didn't bike today. I was feeling down in the morning and not in the mood of riding (although it probably would have helped). Also it was supposed to rain all day. Today was swim endurance day. Last week I did 25 minutes continuous swim and I'm supposed to increase by 5 minutes each week. The first couple minutes were ok. By minute 20 I just wanted it to end. I made it to 30 minutes and I was done. The triathlon shouldn't take longer than that. Because you swim with the current and it's so strong I think the slowest swimmers are done in about 25 minutes. I managed to do 34 laps in the 30 minutes. Also took Pound today. I love that class. It's the best thing if you ever have stress and tension that needs to be released.

This morning I decided today would be a no chocolate day. I did it! One day without choc is big for me. I had big plans of running to the gym, but it was so cold and rainy today that I took the car, and turned on the heated seats! One hour class today, fesses de fer (buns of steel). Basically a step class with a lot of squats. We also did a lot of ab moves that were new to me. I'm gonna be feeling it tomorrow.

Train Like A Navy Seal!
Recently, we saw an article about a beauty pageant contestant who competed in The Navy Seal Fitness Challenge to raise awareness for the Wounded Warriors Project. The Navy Seal Fitness Challenge is a simple, yet epic competition that let's you see how your performance compares to a competitive Navy Seal. We wondered if we could even finish the competition, and then we thought, why not at least try?
So, during the month of June, we are going to train to be not just fit, but NAVY SEAL fit. At the end of the month, we'll hold a virtual competition so we can see how we all measure up, and how far we've come. It's going to be messy, and it's going to be tough, but it's going to be awesome. At the very least, we'll be trying our best, together.

Los Exploradores Tuesday night soccer game. Our normal goalie was out, and I took up the task. This did not go well. I don't love being goalie. The ball comes at you very fast....

Pick-up hoops in Hudson River Park last Saturday. My defense was solid, but my offense was...severely lacking.
There was a young kid at the court, and he let me borrow his ball to shoot around before I got into the game. We talked about the Knicks, and our favorite players. He had strong opinions on these subjects, and the encyclopedic knowledge of a 14 year-old boy. While I was shooting, a slightly older guy named Roy showed up, and volunteered to rebound. He said he liked doing just that. Turns out he's a native New Yorker, and we reminisced about earlier eras of the Knicks, and then about Dr. J. and the ABA. The kid ate all this up. Nothing like hanging out at the court.

Um, sheepish, long overdue update... May has been a bit crazy at Social Workout HQ, with various high stakes negotiations afoot. I've been spending a lot of hours at the desk, and quite a few also on planes. This is all good in some ways, but hasn't been exactly healthy.
Anyway, I miss everyone! Still, I haven't been totally unhealthy, and now catching up on some recent workouts, like yesterday's creaky, breathless morning run in the Hudson River Park. It was the first in a while, and I felt it....

The chance of thunderstorms was pretty high throughout the day and I wasn't in the mood of getting soaked. I took the subway. Before taking the beach body class I did a short run on the treadmill. I got into that mental state today. I did not want to run but I knew I had to do it. I really wish running was easier for me. It's not that it's so hard for me to run, it's more like I really don't want to do it and every time I go for a run I feel do I really have to do this? Beach Body with Marc was awesome. When he walked in and said we were focusing on shoulders today I was nervous. It turned out to be ok but I did stay with light weights for a lot of it.

I biked a loop of Central Park in 20 minutes yesterday. What?? It was intense. If I keep that pace up I should be able to do the bike segment of the triathlon in 1:30. Which would be awesome. Now I need to work on the running. I want to be able to run the 10k comfortably in an hour. That's just above a 6 minute per mile pace which I don't think should be too bad. If I could just get serious about the running. After biking I took buff yoga. My arms were tired from the beginning. And when I tried swimming afterward it was not fun because of that.

whew. 40 min. bike ride to yoga this morning, followed by a very sweaty 90 min. class. It was tough! I haven't done such a tough, hot class in a long time. I felt completely drained after class but also really good, I feel like I sweat out all the toxins in my body. Thankfully yoga is really close to a metro station. Riding a bike home was NOT an option after that class! I love having random days off during the week. freelance = freedom.

200 Workouts or Bust!
We've made it to the final week of this challenge, and eight of us have zoomed past the important 50% mark. We've racked up 166 collective workouts, which means we are nothing short of impressive. It also means that we are tantalizingly close to blowing past the 200-workout milestone. In fact, if each of one of us logs at least two more workouts this week, we will easily reach that goal. Does that sound like a challenge? Good, because it is! Get thee to the gym, the track, the yoga mat, the pool or zumba studio, because we won't be happy until we're all celebrating in the doscientos zone.
Are you with us? Let's go! 200 workouts or bust!

And just like that it's summer. What happened? Today I was back on my bike. I spent some time in the morning fixing the flat along with some other maintenance that I've been avoiding due to limited time and ended up leaving my house later than I wanted to but it was ok. I biked to the GWB and back. It was so hot and it would have felt amazing to go for a swim after that but I forgot my school ID at home and they wouldn't let me in the pool without it (I've been in this situation before). I tried running when I got back to the gym and that was tough. That's something I need to work on. Going from the bike to running. Later I planned to take TRX and Dirty Yoga at the gym but I found out there was a sub for TRX. I took it with him before and it was a bit boring. If I wasn't taking TRX I wasn't going to just wait around for Dirty Yoga so I skipped that too. But I did need to charge my phone a bit so I got on the treadmill. Crunch Chelsea has really fancy treadmills with a built in tablet system. It has a feature where you are running up a mountain in Hawaii and they play the road moving so you don't feel like you're just running and getting nowhere. I thought that was cool. Also it was a mountain route and I never run at inclines so it was challenging. I made it to .55 mile and accidentally pressed stop (it really was an accident). At that point I decided that biking 30 miles (at that point) was enough exercise and began my commute home. On the way home I realized that today is day 7 of my 100 weekly miles cycled goal and since I took off so many days last week I needed to ride 40+ today to get to 100 miles. I stopped into Prsopect Park just to make sure I would get to 40 today. It's a good thing I did, otherwise would've been just under 40.

I feel revived. Got out of work early, biked back to my car, 30 min. Drove home then went for a run. Slow and steady for 28 minutes. Ended at the gym for body weight training, lots of abs and a weigh-in. Not thrilled by the weight, but Iblame that on the long weekend/lack of cardio.

On Friday, I learned this hard knee hook crossover thing. It's really, really difficult, but once I get it, the next part of the move is so cool.

Introducing my new move: the Crotch Coffin. It involves using my inner thigh muscles like vice grips, hence my "crotch of steel!" Before I mastered this, we worked on hip keys, which are so unforgiving. It's not so easy to fan kick your legs once you're in midair. Grrrr.

So today was a long day. I was up at 6:30am because I had a final later and needed to get some triathlon training done and have most of the day left to study. Today was bike day. It was foggy and misty but I went out on my bike anyway. I planned on going to the gym to drop off my stuff and going for at least a 25 mile ride. I made it 2 miles. Then I got a flat tire. I was about a 1/2 mile from the nearest subway, one stop on the train, and a 1/2 mile home. It made more sense for me to just walk my bike the 2 miles home. Except that took forever and I got home almost an hour after I first left. I didn't have patience to fix the tire then so I switched today's training with tomorrow. Tuesday is swim. I took my swim stuff and went on the subway. The goal of Tuesday swim is to swim the full 1500m distance or as much as possible. Today I made it 1000m!! That's 2/3 of the distance and the furthest I've ever done. 8 more weeks. It wasn't bad and I think I could've done more but I wanted to have as much study time as possible so I left it at that. Also went to the gym and did 10 minutes elliptical and some stretching. Now that I'm done with finals I have a lot of time to bike tomorrow. But I still need to fix my bike and figure out where to go.
