Junkies! This morning I saw a father walking his daughter to school. They walked hand in hand passing by the sea of pink tulips blooming in our local park. I noticed, though, that the little girl, about six, was staring absently into space, ignored by her Dad who was using his other hand to thumb away on his Blackberry! Massive Smartphone Offense! There but for the Grace of God, lack of daughter, AND OUR CHALLENGE, go I!
Yes, our monthlong journey of self-imposed digital restraint ended Sunday. Congrats to all, and especially to Mary G. and Sonia M. who achieved 100% of the challenge! Incredible. Right up there too were Megan, Trish, Diane and Doris! Fact is, the exercising and developing of any will in the face of intense digital seduction is so valuable and praiseworthy. Let's keep it up! Behavior is contagious, and what might begin as a fragile commitment among just a handful of people could grow into something much bigger. Just saying.
And so we've arrived in April, and we have a whole new set of group challenges on tap. Von Hottie has kicked off the monthly Social Workout 101, and celeb trainer Carie Shoemate is offering her awesome Bombshell Bootcamp this month, complete with three weekly workout videos. Keep your virtuous momentum going by diving in to one of these, or into another group challenge, OR by starting your own! United we stand!

Hi there! I'm out of town all week, helping my little sister with her wedding, which is on Friday. I think I have a zillion catch up posts from March. Anyway, Buffin and I did a big ol' circuit on Thursday, my last session before I headed out of town. He made me do a lot of walking lunges. I said since I was preparing for a wedding, it was only fair that he precede me with rose petals. Yes, I got my trainer to pretend to throw rose petals in front of me while I did walking lunges around the gym. Also, the 35lb weights were in use when we were doing squats, so I said I would try the 40lb dumbbells. After I finishes, Buffin said, "...and that is what is called 'dominating.'"
Big smooches to all of you xo

Yogis love to point out that a regular "asana" practice serves as a measure of one's current physical state. On Monday, you maybe be barely able to touch your toes, or hold a back bend without massive suffering. But on Thursday, suddenly all of that may come with ease. The weather in your body changes subtly, and the poses are like a barometer. Well, guess what? The same is true for Zumba!
Yes, one week you may be in the zone and grooving like a samba dancer at Carnaval, and the next you might just be a 6'3", bearded white guy in the back of the room, with ill-fitting neon blue sweat pants and embarrassing hip motions.
Yes, well at least I was back in Zumba class after a two week absence. Count it!
