Thousands catchup!
I accidentally had two workouts today. I usually have my sessions with Krystal on Thursday. This week that doesn't work out for me, so I changed it to Wednesday. But this morning I completely forgot about that until I got to the gym for TRX. I figured I was already there so I may as well just stay. 25 minute run before class, then TRX. There were only 6 people today, which made it so much harder to slack off-because Marc would notice, and I would feel stupid if I was just watching while all the other 5 people were doing the exercises. And, Marc did not let me slack off. When he noticed that I skipped one pushup he made me do it after everyone else finished. Later on I had my session with Krystal. I told her about my morning mistake, but she had no mercy on me. She had planned an intense cardio workout and she wasn't going to change it. It included stair drills-I hate those.
Modern Dance: Thank goodness modern dancers do things on the floor that require sit ups during warm up! I was feeling intimidated by the last 70 ish sit ups I had to do for today until our instructor put them to music and a whole bunch of us did them together. Yay for group fitness!!
We did other fun things in modern too, like dance in triplets (down, up, up, down, up, up) to Joni Mitchell songs and swing our bodies around like we were trying to flick honey off our fingers! I really enjoyed it (jazz fingers are still my favorite though!)!
New Yoga Studio: I went to my first 6am yoga class at Stroga in Adams Morgan. The space is GIANT and beautiful with ornate, historic ceiling tiles and molding. Floor to ceiling windows look out on the city.
The instructor was also surprisingly good considering she was just certified a year ago at the ripe age of 23 (no judgments, no judgments). She led us through new and refreshing pose sequences with lots of strong warriors, balancing poses and so, so, so many squats. Well, really just a few squats that we held for a really long time.
But there was one, major negative: the music. The music was what you might here in TJ Maxx, or the DMV or Rite Aid when you are sick. Classic Rock. Not classic classic rock, but the bad stuff from the mid-90s -- like that kiss the rain song and oasis. I tried to push it out of my thoughts, but it was really distracting and, honestly, if I didn't have an unlimited month pass (thanks groupon) I might not go back solely because of the music. (And also because I felt like I was cheating on my much loved studio that I've been with for five years.) But since I do have an unlimited pass -- I'll be back it on Thursday! And I will enjoy my time at Stroga even if the music stays the same. It will make me stronger!
5.3k walk = 50 min. during lunch.
last ditch effort to log some thousands while I was watching tv last night
I had a lot of work to do today, but I knew if I didn't make time to take Tomas' spin class at 1:15 I wouldn't make it to the gym for my own workout. I brought my phone with me to class-something I rarely do because it disturbs my workout, but I figured I could text and get some things done during the few minutes where we actually sit on the seat (most of Tomas' class is jumps, and off the seat). And I did, but apparently the lady next to me was bothered by that and Tomas came up to me, so I put the phone down (he told me that after class when I went over to apologize). It was a great class-seemed to go by so much faster because I was preoccupied a bit-but I won't bring my phone again.
And with that the November 1000's are done! WOOO hoo. Now, my achy abs (which nicely are taking attention away from my achy from climbing shoulders and arms) are going to lounge like a lump on the couch and drink a well deserved cocktail.
Monday: "Only 20 more" times infinity equals the Pilates class they call "100s." I stopped counting when I reached 100 on the squats and crunches and all I can say is that I can barely stand up today. Or sit down. The exercises just kept going on and on and on. To keep up morale, I think Crunch needs someone to teach this class who counts in a little more of the linear tradition. I am so looking forward to chilling out in yoga!
Yoga at BKB tonight. I ran into the ever lovely Maggie in the restroom (of all places).
Me: Um... Are you Maggie?
Maggie: Yes! Are you Christine?
Me: Yes! *thinks: man I need to pee...* Uh... Later!
Naturally, after yoga class I ran to James yelling something about meeting her. 'Cause I'm easily excited like that and stuff.
Anyway, yoga was good. Maria was not there tonight but Benita was subbing. I liked her - I should try to make it to her Vinyasa classes on Wednesdays.
Oh man, I have a lot of reps to bust out today to complete the November 1000's - apparently I have really been slacking! Sorry in advance for the multi and sure to be dull posts today as I crank these out.
first time doing intervals on the treadmill. Didn't love it, but certainly got my heart pumping.
I have no excuse for not working out today. I wasn't even feeling lazy. I just didn't do it....
Yoga with Jess :) Love it! Totally makes my day. Today I did wheel pose twice! Jess was amazed that I actually did it. Apparently he hasn't been looking in my direction the last couple weeks. But I have a problem-I can get into the position once but when I come down I can't lift back up. Jess said it was in my mind so he helped me get back up a second time. Also did a treadmill run before class.
Tonight I did more hanging out watching then climbing but I did manage to conquer a really hard route that I was really proud of and I met the lovely Christine N. too. So all in all a good night!
only time for a 4k walk today. sooo busy, no time for real exercise or yoga class :( had to work all weekend. (no holiday up here in Canada)
