Squatting Your Twin
Get this. We were asked to squat our body weight, 30 times. I weigh 174 pounds. Could you throw your twin over your shoulder and squat him or her? Because I couldn't, ha.

Christine Miller on Virtual Yoga Connections and Million Dollar Baby Moments
Christine Miller is a yoga instructor and the founder of TeleYoga. We talked last week via webcam. Me at Social Workout HQ, Christine on the floor of her Park Slope apartment, next to her bright, striped yoga mat.
After I started teaching yoga, I had a client who wanted to do sessions over the phone when she went out of town. And it was actually this wonderful meditative thing. She had to listen to my voice, and I had to close my eyes and picture her. And then I thought I could go one step further, so I decided to incorporate web cam, and it just developed from there.

I feel like a lazy bum.
So I totally overslept this morning. Not that I had anything to do, but sleeping past 9AM makes me feel lazy. I didn't have a lot on my plate today (for once) and I decided I'd go to Mario G's Ride class of Glennie's Virgin Yoga at 115. I left the house late, and Union Sqaure is closer to my house than Lafayette so Mario won.

Leila Fazel on Moving Through Space and Time with Purpose
Leila Fazel, a former ballerina with Dance Theater of Harlem, co-founded New York's star-studded Aerospace gym with former boxer Michael Olajide. We talked with Michael last week, and figured we should complete the job....
I was never injured through my entire dance career, [until the injury that led to my retirement]. And I think as I got older and was really pushing myself so hard, maybe my nutrition wasn’t as good as it should be, I was twenty and alone in New York City, and I just didn’t have the guidance that I needed to get over the injury.
I tried to continue to take ballet class, but ballet class itself, the barre work, for me was not fun. It was redundant and hard, and there just didn’t seem like any reward. So I quickly fell out of that. Going to a gym wasn’t really an option. I just didn’t understand the culture of the gym world. The few times I walked into a gym, with the equipment and the machines — it’s very intimidating. It’s so different from what I was used to, going into an open studio where there’s room to move. All the metal, all the noise... It accosted my senses. I put on maybe 15 pounds, and I just didn’t feel good. I was so used to my entire life moving and being active. But finally, I took Michael Olajide’s class at Chelsea Piers.
